Wade James Back in 1979 Bob James, a former champion surf –ski competitor and Bundaberg Lifesaver, took up the challenge to paddle from Bargara Beach Bundaberg to Brisbane to raise funds for Cancer research. Bob paddled his way into the record books by completing a 343km surf-ski paddle marathon over a period, of three days with a half an hour to spare…. Over $20,000 was raised for the Queensland Cancer Fund. Sadly, Bob (65 years) was diagnosed six years ago with Parkinson’s disease, which has had a major impact on the quality of his life. Bob's eldest son Wade (37 years old) has agreed to take up the challenge and follow his Dad’s path, in order to raise funds towards Parkinson’s disease. Wade, founder of RUSH Surf wear, who has not paddled since he was 19 years old, but he jumped back on the ski in March last year and began training extensively in order to combat the enduring physical and mental focus requirements to needed meet the challenges of the paddle. Long range weather forecasts have been obtained to select the best period for the hazardous trip down the Qld Coast. Tidal Influences between Fraser Island and the mainland have also been considered to the best advantage of the lone paddler.
